Insolvency and Restructuring

We are regularly retained by Canadian and foreign financial institutions, asset-based lenders, equipment lessors, other secured creditors, suppliers, trade creditors and other stakeholders of financially-distressed debtors to advance and protect their rights. Further, we frequently act as independent counsel to court-appointed monitors, receivers, liquidators and trustees in bankruptcy.

We take it as a compliment from our colleagues at other firms that they frequently entrust their valued clients to us when they have a conflict and are unable to act.

We have been retained to represent stakeholders in many of the largest Canadian and cross-border receivership and restructuring files in a wide-range of business sectors. Examples of sectors where we support our Insolvency and Restructuring clients include:

  • Manufacturing
  • Steel
  • Automotive
  • Airline
  • Transportation
  • Telecommunications
  • Real Estate
  • Retail
  • Marketing & Advertising
  • Food Distribution
  • Financial Services

We take an integrated approach, drawing on the deal-making and strategic skills of lawyers in our Corporate Law, Litigation, Commercial Real Estate, Banking and Financial Services Groups. This allows us to offer cross-practice skills that surpass traditional restructuring and insolvency practices, mobilize quickly if court intervention is required, and navigate any restructuring process to achieve the best results.
