He acts for lenders, bondholders, indenture trustees, court-appointed officers, investors, shareholders, and other stakeholders in restructurings, insolvency proceedings, enforcement matters, and major commercial disputes. His practice spans corporate restructurings, bankruptcy and insolvency, creditor-debtor disputes, shareholder and partnership disputes, fraud and enforcement matters, and real estate-related disputes. He has represented clients across a broad range of sectors, including retail, construction, real estate, financial services, syndicated mortgages, credit unions, mining, oil and gas, transportation, logistics, print and online media, and cryptocurrencies. George regularly appears in proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, and the Business Corporations Act. He has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including the Ontario Court of Appeal, and at the Supreme Court of Canada. He also serves as independent counsel to court-appointed monitors, receivers, inspectors, and trustees in bankruptcy, and has been appointed by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) as representative counsel for retail investors in major syndicated mortgage proceedings.
George is recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Chambers, and Best Lawyers in Canada. He is actively engaged in his profession, both within his firm and in the broader community. He serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and is involved as a member and/or executive member with several professional organizations, including the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the Toronto Commercial List Users’ Committee, and the Turnaround Management Association. Additionally, he is a former president of the Ontario Bar Association’s Insolvency Section.
