Darren advises clients involved in complex commercial and civil litigation disputes where the stakes are high, the legal path is often unclear, and thorough strategy and preparation make the difference. He takes the time to understand a client’s business realities, identifies the issues that matter most, and develops a clear plan to pursue them with a research-driven approach. Clients value Darren’s ability to translate complex legal concepts into plain language, allowing them to navigate unfamiliar legal terrain and make effective decisions.
He has built a robust litigation practice that includes acting for financial institutions, court officers, private lenders, and shareholders operating mid-market businesses across a variety of sectors, ranging from real estate, personal products, and manufacturing. Darren has litigated corporate disputes, complex debt enforcement, fraud claims, and oppression remedies, including matters involving closely held businesses in which misappropriation, misconduct, or an irreparable breakdown among owners requires court intervention and unique remedies. He also acts on insolvency-related litigation, including guarantee claims, wind-ups, and restructuring proceedings. Darren has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario, including the Court of Appeal, the Divisional Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Commercial List, as well as in arbitration proceedings.
Darren graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2019, receiving the Warren K. Winkler Prize in Labour and Employment Law. He was named the top oralist at the Willms & Shier Environmental Law Moot by a panel that included Supreme Court of Canada Justice Suzanne Côté. Outside the office, Darren enjoys travelling and is an avid fan of the Raptors, Leafs, Blue Jays, and Buffalo Bills.
