Barry’s practice concentrates on residential and commercial real estate specifically, land development and joint ventures for major developers and real estate investments trusts (REITs), arranging joint ventures, equity and mezzanine financing, as well as institutional lending. Barry represents numerous financial institutions including banks, trust companies and life insurance companies. Barry founded Gordon, Traub & Rotenberg in 1976 and was a senior partner until 1988. During his practice, Barry was also a director and member of the Loan Committee and Board of Directors of The Dominion Trust Company from 1983 to 1988. In 1988 Barry temporarily retired from the practice of law to work with a public company involved in real estate financing. During this period of time, Barry was a director and member of the Loan Committee and Board of Directors of Counsel Trust Company (which later became Sun Life Trust Company) from 1988 to 1990, and later served as President of Counsel Financial Corporation from 1990 to 1994, the owner of Counsel Trust Company and FirstLine Trust Company which went on to become a part of CIBC Mortgages. Barry was responsible for the real estate merchant banking functions and negotiating workouts across Canada and the United States. In 1994 Barry returned to the practice of law at Harris, Sheaffer LLP. In 2016 he joined Chaitons LLP as counsel.

Publications and Lectures
Barry has been a lecturer and published papers for the Continuing Legal Education Program presented by the Ontario Bar Association and has lectured for private organizations on various topics including innovative and emerging methods of financing real estate acquisitions and development, including REITs and participation financing.

Charity Work
Barry’s charity work includes the Mount Sinai Hospital, Jewish National Fund Campaign, United Way and Canadian Friends of Boys Town Jerusalem
