Mark’s principal practice areas are insolvency, restructuring and banking. He represents a broad range of clients including financial institutions, other lenders (including equipment lessors and private equity firms), trustees and, private and court-appointed receivers in all areas of insolvency law. He regularly advises financial institutions on day-to-day banking matters including account operation, cheque kiting, defalcation, fraudulent activity, customer disputes, privacy and risk management. Mark has extensive experience in enforcement and collection matters.

Mark’s academic and business background uniquely positions him to understand and find creative solutions to meet his client’s needs. After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1981 from McGill University, Mark went on to obtain his M.B.A. at Western University in 1985 and his LL.B. at Dalhousie University in 1988. Mark was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1990. Before joining Chaitons LLP in 1991, Mark practiced corporate and commercial law with another Toronto law firm. He has also worked as a management consultant for Arthur Andersen & Company.

Mark pursues a number of varied interests outside of the office. He taught the Insolvency Section of the bar admission course for a number of years and is a former and long-standing member of the Canadian Jewish Congress’ Community Relations Committee. Mark is also multi-lingual, speaking both French and Hebrew in addition to English.
